Interview with Eir Aoi at Anime Weekend Atlanta!

VKEIOS: Thank you so much for speaking with us, to begin, could you tell us how you've enjoyed Anime Weekend Atlanta so far?It was my first time in Atlanta and because of AWA, I was able to come here and meet everyone.  I am so grateful for this opportunity and I made many wonderful memories here.

VKEIOS: Your new album released in June, could you tell us what you're most proud of about D'AZUR?My latest album "D'AZUR" many composers created many different songs which in turn you can see many aspects in this album.

VKEIOS: How long did it take to produce this album? It took about a year.

VKEIOS: Choosing from tracks on this album, which song do you think best embodies your spirit as a musical artist? All the songs I have put in a lot of hard work into them so they all are special,  but if I had to choose, I would say it would be "Quit". The composer created a digital sound with this track and I wanted to create lyrics that made you feel like you were floating so I played with the lyrics a bit.

I think you will enjoy it.

VKEIOS: It's been nearly 4 years since the release of your debut single Memoria, what went through your mind when you released this single?Since I a little kid, my dream was to become a singer.  That dream came true when "MEMORIA" was released.

I am so grateful that I was able to meet Fumio Yasuda the person who discovered me,  and I was able to encounter "MEMORIA" and also encounter "Fate/Zero".

VKEIOS: Which songs do you most enjoy performing live, and which songs draw the best response from your audiences? Many of my songs have anime tie-ins, so I notice the fans react to those songs by singing along and jumping during those songs. It makes me happy when I see that.

VKEIOS: How do you feel when you're performing a new song on stage for the first time?I always get nervous when I sing a new song. (laughs) But the feeling of being able to deliver the song in person outweighs my nervousness.

When I sing, I always hope that the message and power of the song deeply touches the listener's heart.

VKEIOS: Having played at conventions and at venues, in your opinion, what are the benefits of each?At both conventions and venues, mainly I sing my songs which have anime tie-ins. One difference at my solo shows,  I tend to sing different (non anime related) songs so you get a variety of music.

VKEIOS: What do you want your fans to feel after experienced your live performances?I want them to walk away feeling,  "music is awesome!"

VKEIOS: You've accomplished a lot in 4 years, what are some of the most important pieces of knowledge that you've gained in your career? As my dream of being a singer came true, along many of the things I wanted, I learned that having the spirit of not giving up is very important. I'm so glad that I never gave up on my dreams of being a singer.

VKEIOS: What have been some of the most challenging obstacles that you've overcome in your music career? When working on lyrics for my song I tend to struggle with expressing what I feel into words which is very hard. But once the final product is finished,  those feelings  turn into happiness.

VKEIOS: Where would you like to go with your career in the next 4 years, are there things you'd like to experiment with in the future?I will be going into my  4th year since my debut and it seems like it went by so quickly. I guess it means that it was very productive.

Going forward I want to keep learning new things and bring it into my music. In 4 years, I hope to have a concert at Madison Square Garden.

VKEIOS: Thank you for your time, could you please leave a closing statement for the readers at Visual KEIOS?

I've been coming to the U.S. many times and my hope for next time is that can one day have a solo concert in the U.S. I want more U.S. fans to come out to check out my concert so I will do my best.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again soon. Ei, Ei, Ruuuu!

Many, many thanks to the lovely Eir Aoi for her time, as well as her manager, translator and Sony Music Entertainment and Anime Weekend Atlanta for making the interview possible.
