Anime Matsuri 2012 Report
Hello all, I just came back from my first con of the season. Anime Matsuri. It’s located in The Woodlands (Houston,TX) which is a really nice area. The hotel where the con is usually held is just right. It has a waterway right behind the hotel (along with a waterway trolley and a regular trolley that will take you around The Woodlands for free) and the hotel staff goes beyond their job to help the con goers out.
I usually hear horror stories about hotel staff being awful to the con goers along with many complications during their stay. Which can then turn away attendees. Sometimes if not all the time, a hotel can make or break a convention. I’ve never had a problem with the hotel and it’s getting to the point the hotel staff remember me.
I’ve been attending Anime Matsuri since 2009 and I’ve been volunteering ever since. Alot of people say why would you want to volunteer/staff at a convention? It’s suspose to be a vacation. When Anime Matsuri rolled around, I was tired of just being a con goer. I figured why not try volunteering. I love working and helping out when it’s needed.
The staffers at Anime Matsuri are very nice and it makes volunteering worthwhile.
What seperates Anime Matsuri from other cons is the car show they have and the fact they bring arcade games in for the convention. A purikura machine is also available to use Friday-Sunday of the convention.
Then when you add in the fashion show, panels, autograph sessions, dealers room, artist alley and things to do in the surrounding area….you won’t be bored at all. Anime Matsuri had their very first tea party this year too.
They also have a very nice balance of guests, sometimes even bringing in guests that you don’t normally see at cons. I know they do bring back the same guests frequently, in return though we get great guests that we rarely see at conventions. In the end, they have something for everybody. The jmusic lovers, anime fans, cultural fans and jfashionistas.
Anime Matsuri is usually Easter weekend, but will be at the end of March for 2013. The con also offers super passes (you get perks such as early access to events and avoiding those long lines, super passes are very limited).
If your looking for a new con to go to, I would highly recommend you put this on your con list.
